We will have a presentation on Nord Stream 2 by Thomas Kleefuss followed by a member to member presentation by Sanan Phutrakul.

Nordstream 2 - Completion risk between Energiewende and US Geopoltics  A natural gas pipeline being built under the Baltic Sea from Russia to the German coast is shaking up geopolitics and supports of the EUs green deal. Nord Stream 2, as it’s called, extends the usage of fossil fuels and worries in the U.S. and other countries that the link could give the Kremlin new leverage over Germany and other NATO allies. Pipe construction, halted in 2019, resumed in December 2020, yet U.S. sanctions still threaten to pull the brakes on the project backed by the Russia’s Gazprom and European oil majors (Shell, WintershallDea, Engie OMV).

Thomas Kleefuß is the owner and Managing Director of Kleefuß Consulting GmbH and has more than three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, in which he worked in various management positions in the areas of oli & gas infrastructure as well as trading in crude oil and natural gas. Within his latest positions he gained intense experiences in large M&A transactions and international arbitrations. Thomas Kleefuss studied business administration at the University of Cologne. He began his career in 1990 as a controller and auditor at DEMINEX GmbH in Essen. In 1996 he went to Egypt, where he was responsible for the oil upstream activities for DEMINEX and later for RWE Dea as CFO in Cairo. In 2000 he became head of the marketing of crude oil and natural gas at RWE Dea AG in Hamburg. Here he was responsible for the marketing and trading of the international oil and gas reserves of RWE Dea. From 2004 on, he held the position of gas purchasing manager for the West region and was in charge of purchasing natural gas from Norway and the Netherlands for the continental market of RWE AG. From 2006 till the end of 2013 he was CEO of NET4GAS s.r.o. in Prague. From 2015-2020 ha was the CEO of STORAG Etzel GmbH, Europe's largest independent oil and gas storage company.
