Music patron Mr. Martin Stranský, is kindly opening for us Rotarians, the doors of Villa Stranský for a home concert  -Sušicka Salon Soirée- on Friday 1st of March at 19:30 and this will be our March Fun Meeting (instead of Monday 4th).

Classical music was traditionally performed for many centuries in private homes and their parlors, and Mr. Stranský is pleased to preserve this tradition and host a group of music lovers in his own home, whose story you can recall in the Czech TV documentary "Names with Honor" ( ).

We invite our Rotary members to enjoy this intimate concert by extraordinary mezzo Bella Adamova and her friend and pianist Ahmad Hedar, in the 1930's setting of Villa Stránský, who will be presenting Franz Schubert's Winterreise (Winter Journey). The song cycle Winterreise, written by Franz Schubert a year before his death in 1827, is considered one of the most impressive works of the romantic song genre. The 24 balladic songs to words by the poet Wilhelm Müller (1794-1827) depict the journey of an unknown wanderer through a winter landscape.

Bella Adamová debuted her critically acclaimed Winter Journey last year at St. Wenceslas Festival: "Her interpretation of Winterreise presented a captivating kaleidoscope of vocal expressive possibilities, as she seamlessly moved from the most painfully quiet pianissimos, through ironic and self-tormenting waves quickly silencing the soft, sweet heights full of hope, to the rawness submerged in deep tones. Her professional performance was underscored by complete concentration on the meaning of the text and adorned with excellent German pronunciation, an original and deeply felt interpretation, which was meticulously thought out within the overall compositional structure". Opera+, Blanka Hrubá.

Reservation for this home concert is required, as seats are limited. Please confirm directly to me replying to this email, no later than Saturday 24th of February. There is no entrance fee, however you can show your appreciation with a donation of approximately 500Kč for the musicians after the concert.
