Dear Rotarians,

It is our pleasure to welcome Ing. Petr Jan Kalaš, Czech-Swiss expert in the field of environment, energy and industrial planning and former Czech Minister of the Environment.

From 1958 Mr. Kalaš studied economics and energy at the then Faculty of Economic Engineering of the Czech Technical University. From 1964 to 1965 he worked as an operating engineer at the Tušimice thermal power plant. Immediately after the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops in 1968, he left for Austria and he eventually settled in Switzerland. There he devoted eighteen years to international consulting in sixty-five countries, and from 1986 to 1994 he worked for the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Trade.
Later he worked for the World Bank, in the area of ​​​​the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. From September 2006 to January 2007, he served as the Czech Minister of the Environment. In subsequent years, he worked as an advisor and consultant in the state administration in the field of energy, environment and climate. Mr. Kalaš established the Czech Business Council for Sustainable Development.

We will also have the plesaure to hear the nomination speech of our Rotary candidate, Nerea Olabegoya, Business Consultant and Director of Qualo Training and Mobility.

I ask all members coming on Monday to order dinner, since we do not pay room rental for our meetings at the Jelinek restaurant and they still need to make profit. Perhaps ordering soup would be nice.
