The Ambassador of Mexico, the Honorable Leonora Rueda, joined our club meeting this week at the invitation of RCPI President Fernanda Escobar.
Ambassador Rueda made an excellent presentation to members and friends about Mexico and the ties and connections with Europe and the Czech Republic. In fact the Czech Republic has influenced Mexico significantly right back to the 15th Century when Czechs brought expertise in the areas of medicine and music which have had a lasting influence. In more recent history Mexico remembered the atrocities which took place at Lidice by naming a town (now part of Mexico City) San Jerónimo Lídice. Ambassador Rueda informed the meeting that sunsequently Lidice was also taken up as a girls name in Mexico.
Fernanda Escobar thanked the Ambassador for her very interesting and relevant speech and wished Mexico and the Czech Republic a long and successful collaboration.
