Speechless Reconciliation – Building Futures for Young People Leaving State Care

Speechless Reconciliation was born in 2021 through the initiative of members of Rotary Club Prague International, who shared a common belief: no young person should have their future determined by the circumstances they were born into.

What started as an ambitious idea has grown into a European non-profit organisation working across 10 countries, bringing together Rotary Clubs, children's homes, SOS Children's Villages, companies, volunteers and mentors to support young people transitioning from state care into independent adulthood.

From the very beginning, Rotary has been much more than a supporter. Rotarians have helped shape the programme, served as mentors, opened professional networks, organised local partnerships and continue to play an essential role in creating opportunities for the young people we serve.
Why Speechless Reconciliation?

Across Europe, more than 337,000 children are currently growing up in residential care. Every year, thousands leave the care system as legal adults, often without family support, professional networks or the guidance that most young people take for granted.

Research consistently shows that care leavers face significantly higher risks of unemployment, social isolation, homelessness and long-term exclusion. While many organisations provide practical assistance, the greatest missing element is often a supportive community.

Speechless Reconciliation was created to fill that gap.

Our mission is to help young people leaving state care build confidence, meaningful relationships and practical opportunities that enable them to create independent, fulfilling lives.

We believe that when young people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds come together, they discover that what unites them is far greater than what separates them. Through shared experiences, mentorship and long-term support, they build friendships, broaden their horizons and begin to see possibilities they had never imagined.

How does it work?
Speechless Reconciliation is much more than a summer camp. It is a long-term development program built around three interconnected phases.
Phase 1 – Developmental Camp
Young people aged 16–21 from children's homes and foster care programmes across Europe participate in an intensive eight-day international residential camp.
Guided by experienced mentors and facilitators, participants explore their strengths, develop practical life skills, improve communication and teamwork, define personal goals and work on projects that help them envision their future.
Equally important, they become part of an international community of peers and mentors that continues long after the camp ends.

Phase 2 – Mentoring & Alumni Community
After camp, participants continue receiving structured support through individual mentoring, online clubs, expert sessions and regular community activities.
Mentors provide practical guidance on education, employment, entrepreneurship and personal development while helping young people navigate the challenges of independent living.
The growing alumni community has become one of Speechless Reconciliation's greatest strengths, with former participants increasingly supporting new generations of care leavers.

Phase 3 – Ventures & Reunions
For alumni who want to develop a business idea, career ambition or personal initiative, Speechless Reconciliation provides tailored support through its Ventures program, connecting them with experienced professionals and specialized mentors.
Annual international reunions strengthen relationships, reinforce shared values and encourage alumni to become volunteers, mentors and future leaders within the organization.

Our Impact

Since 2021, Speechless Reconciliation has:
  • Organized 8 international developmental camps
  • Connected 143 young people from 10 European countries
  • Organized 3 international reunions
  • Created more than 30 educational, professional and personal development opportunities
  • Achieved that approximately 60% of alumni are today studying, employed or developing their own personal initiative
Beyond these numbers, the greatest success is seeing former participants return as volunteers, mentors and members of the Speechless Reconciliation team—creating a sustainable cycle of support where those who once received help now inspire the next generation.

Rotary's Continuing Role

Rotary remains one of Speechless Reconciliation's closest partners.

Rotarians contribute not only financially but also through mentorship, fundraising, professional expertise and by opening their networks to create internships, career opportunities and meaningful personal connections for our young people.

This partnership perfectly reflects Rotary's ideal of Service Above Self—creating lasting impact through personal commitment and meaningful relationships.
