RCPI met for a very special occasion this week: Gerry Tipple's Birthday, and a special one at that. Over thirty Rotarians and Friends attended a combined Christmas meal and celebration of Gerry's birthday. Gerry recounted some of the events of his early life including how his mother named me after Geraldo of  'Geraldo and his Concert Orchestra' fame, as he was on the radio that evening. "Geraldo's real name was Gerald Walcan Bright. I guess I'm lucky not be called Walcan - especially as my father's name was Wallace" said Gerry with a smile.

In line with the theme of birthdays Rotarians enjoyed the quizz based on 'can you guess who this is.... aged 4'. Some Rotarians have not changed a bit. The Barcelo served a delicious fare of roast duck, traditional dumplings as well as a variety of other courses followed by super puddings. Another quiz had Rotarians debating what are the ingredients of famous cocktails and how many Olympic medals the Czech Ice Hockey team has won.

Gerry kindly sponsored the food and wine and Members contributed  to our Indian School project with a generous 21,500 Kc with still some more to come. It's a great contribution that will ensure we send the promised 80,000 Kc (200,000 Indian Rupees) as part of our Indian Food Helps Programme that will provide a lot support to the education of poor rural children in Rajsamand.

The evening was also the one where we all wished Ben Ivory farewell as he and Maureen return to Chicago. Ben has been an active member of RCPI for a number of years whilst working on an international assignment for Graebel. Of course we never say good-bye since Rotary is a great family and we already look forward to Ben and Maureen visiting us again. Ben did offer to host RCPI Rotarians in Chicago so book your slot!

Rotary is about doing good and having fun. Our meeting was a perfect example of fun, friendship, celebration and raising funds for good causes.

A very Merry Christmas from Rotary Club Prague International!
